Not Clearly Pro or Con to the question "Can Alternative Energy Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels?"
"[C]oal, gas, and oil, the hydrocarbons, the fossil fuels generate about 85 percent of U.S. and frankly also of global energy supply. Up at the top, you see these little incursions of nuclear and non-hydro renewables and of course, one of the major questions going forward will be the extent to which those non-carbon emitting energy sources can displace fossil fuels...
There is a -- there is, I would say, by demonstration a way for us to go forward, address our security and our climate concerns together. But it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to require really this -- we have to succeed in some of these technology areas like bio-fuels, like carbon sequestration, like renewables, like nuclear, and we have to succeed simultaneously politically to have the will to take more than baby steps."
